In a study reported by the Pancreatic Cancer Network in August 2021, one out of every four patients with pancreatic cancer tumors has a biological feature that makes that particular patient suitable for a specific type of treatment. Studies suggest that patients who receive precision medicine, which is treatment based on their unique biology, can live longer.
Pancreatic cancer develops due to damaged DNA within the pancreas leading to an abnormal multiplication of cells. A single cancerous cell then grows into a tumor. The new collaborative, multi-institutional study was published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology Precision Oncology. It provides information about clinical outcomes of treatment with specific targeted therapies.
